It’s All About “The Taste” of Charleston: A Celebration of Lowcountry Cuisine
The 29th annual Taste of Charleston, hosted by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association, is only a week away. The three-day celebration of Lowcountry cuisine will feature some of Charleston’s finest, nationally-renowned chefs. Not only should you experience the festivals main event but you should definitely check out the three other special events the weekend has to offer.
Taste of Charleston Festivities
The festivities begin on Friday October 9, 2009 at the Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus with “Taste“- an Iron Chef Competition. The event will showcase the Institute’s new, $7 million state-of-the-art amphitheater kitchen, and will exhibit a culinary battle with some of the best chefs in town.
On Saturday, October 10, the Taste of the Kitchen will be located at the CIC’s Palmer’s Campus and will have cooking demonstrations, wine and beer classes, a buffet lunch, and more. Saturday evening will showcase Taste of the Arts with various art galleries in downtown Charleston. The art walk combines Lowcountry art with the culinary arts and will showcase the talents of local artists while offering guests a sampling of appetizers from favorite Charleston restaurants.
A Taste of Charleston Main Event
Now for the Main Event~ Taste of Charleston will be held on Sunday, October 11, at the Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant. The event will platform a sampling of the taste-tempting delicacies served at more than 40 of Charleston’s finest restaurants. Additional things to see include the legendary “Waiter’s Wine Race,” food and wine pairings, live bands on the main stage and a Kids Corner (complete with a petting zoo).
